End of February Update

I’d like to start with a shout out to the new friends that have started following the blog: Welcome, and I hope you have fun reading! Note that I do moderate comments, so feel free to leave ‘em but don’t be surprised if it takes a little while for them to show up. It’s not me blocking you, just me having a day job, too. I usually only check once or twice a day.

As for the writing, I’m still working through the first rewrite/edit of my WIP with about 100 pages left to go. This is a long book–close to 20k more than my last–and I keep feeling like I should be cutting scenes to trim the length down. I can’t seem to find any scenes to cut, though. So any changes to that will have to wait until round #2 when I come back to it in April. I’m pretty happy with it overall, and think I worked most of the nagging issues out. I won’t know for sure until it goes to my betas, though, so we’ll see what happens then. And I *think* I have a title I like, so I’m calling it “Grendel.” I’m not sure of it’s genre, so please don’t ask. It could be a lot of things. We’ll call it  ”Speculative” if you have to have a label.

I’ve also got what might be the next book forming in my mind. It’s an idea I had before WIP #2, but there were some pretty serious problems that I didn’t know how to solve. I think I’m getting a handle on a lot of them now, but it’s also a story that needs a lot of planning and I’m not much of an outliner. So we’ll see. I might give it a try and see what the other side lives like, do plot diagrams and character arcs–the whole fussy bit. It might not work out but if it does then great. If not then I can say I tried it and go back to my happy “pantser” bliss.
